After reading through the list of 50 persuasive essay topics, I struggled to feel passionate about any of them. Around that time, my family was dealing with the sudden and traumatic loss of my mother-in-law. I was overwhelmed with anger and grief over what my husband, brother-in-law, and mother-in-law experienced, and that outrage ultimately led me to write about the hidden truths of organ procurement. The idea did not change much as I wrote, but the emotional weight of the topic made the process difficult.
I wrote the essay at home in my bedroom over the course of a few days. I often had to step away and return to it because the subject matter was so emotional and required careful editing. This essay was much harder for me than the narrative essay because it needed to be both personal and factual. Finding statistics to support the concerns I raised was challenging.
I am most proud of the narrative portion, where I described our experience during my mother-in-law’s end-of-life care. If I could revise the essay, I would strengthen my citations and include more statistics to support my argument.
