Narrative Essay Reflection

Writing my narrative essay began with simply reflecting on my own life and choosing a story that felt meaningful and manageable within the word count. I originally considered a different, more personal story, but ultimately decided on one that I felt ready to share. That decision happened before I began writing, rather than during the process. One piece of peer feedback that stuck with me was a reminder to watch out for run-on sentences, something I admittedly struggle with when my thoughts move faster than my typing.

I completed my rough draft in one afternoon at my kitchen table with a cup of coffee while my son napped. Revising took place over several days, usually late at night in bed after my kids were asleep. Balancing full-time work, full-time school, and raising two young children makes writing a challenge.

The hardest part of this essay was fitting such an emotional story into the required length. The easiest part was writing about my son, which comes naturally to me. While I am proud of how I conveyed my inner thoughts, I wish I had more space to expand the ending.
